Emergency Foster Protocols

FOR DOGS: 

Non-Emergency Symptoms 
  • Diarrhea - lasting more than 24 hours 
  • Sneezing - more than 3 times a day
  • Coughing - more than 3 times a day
  • Eyes are watery/goopy/red
  • Limping
  • Decreased appetite/weight loss
  • Single episode of seizure
    What to Do: Call Erica at 510-267-1915 x 102 (M-F 9:00am 5:00pm) or email erica@hopalong.org.

    Emergency Symptoms
    • Severe respiratory distress with gasping for air
    • Vomiting - more than 4 times an hour
    • Possible broken limb
    • Hit by care or blunt force trauma
    • Inability to stand up 

    What to Do

    Saturdays 9-5, call Sat Cell: 415-686-7915. Sundays and Holidays 9-5, call emergency Cell: 510-384-0867.
    Between 5PM-8AM any day of the week: Berkeley Dog and Cat Hospital, 2126 Haste St in Berkeley 510-848-5041. Please let them know that you are fostering an animal for Hopalong. They are to charge the Hopalong account.

    For MAJOR, LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCIES please call the EMERGENCY cell phone: (510) 384-0867 and leave a detailed message with the nature of your emergency. Someone will return your call as soon as possible.

    Please do not take your cat/kitten to an emergency room without prior approval. you will not be reimbursed for the costs incurred.
