Volunteer Matching Grants!

If you haven't been tracking your hours, now is a great time to start! (Fosters, keep track of your days- we'll count your hours for you.) Volunteers, login here, and if you need a new log-in, just let me know.

Here's one good reason to keep track of your hours: Many companies will match your volunteer hours with financial donations. Thanks to volunteers Clarissa and Carla, we've assembled a list of many of these companies and the websites with instructions. If your employer isn't listed here, it's still worth a shot- ask them about their corporate responsibility programs or volunteer grants.

It's Still Wednesday- Hopalong Style

Hi All,
Hope everyone is staying warm, including your pets! Admit it, you know you’re turning up the heat and pulling out the pet sweaters- we know we are!

Thank you everyone for your help at past and future Santa Paws events! These are great fun for everyone involved- the one on the 7th was a great success- *five* dogs were adopted at Bay Street (thanks Jill for spearheading this!) and countless pets and kids (!) sat on Santa’s lap for a donation.

We’ve also had great success with cat adoptions this week- our buddy Rasputin went home and kittens are flying out of here. This is unusual and wonderful for December! This week we also participated in a rescue mission sending tons and tons of little dogs to Idaho- check out the video here.

Couple fundraising opportunities to share: we’ve got some very cool photo cards that are perfect for office fundraising/tree decorating. If your office is into donating, holler at us and we’ll share details. We’ve also got our Amazon wishlist for those who prefer giving to pets in need- personally, I think donating is an awesome way to give. Another cool thing to do is foster- dogs or cats don’t understand holidays, but we know they love warm beds!

Volunteer ops: I don’t have a lot of things to share right now- it’s always a little slow in December. We’ve got quite a few marketing research projects if you’re into that- they can be done at home- and we’re looking for a marketing intern for winter/spring semester, preferably a college student. If you know anyone who might be interested, info here. Share widely- this is a great opportunity for someone who wants to learn nonprofits and practice their skills!

Thanks, everyone- your contributions are greatly appreciated!!

Karma Cinema!

Hopalong Animal Rescue is of four non profits being featured in August at the New Parkway Theater in Oakland! They are a great group of people who have renovated the place and started this "pay what you want" offering on select days.

A one minute video created by our stellar volunteer Monique will be running before each movie showing for the entire month of August.

Each audience for every movie will vote who they want the proceeds to go to, and 30% will be donated to the winner!

Go see a movie and tell your friends!

Eat for Hopalong!

Wow, there's an offer that's pretty hard to pass up, right?

Hopalong is partnering with California Pizza Kitchen in Emeryville (5614 Bay St) one Thursday a month for the next few months. All you have to do is bring a flier and present it to your server and Hopalong gets 20% of your check! Help Hopalong by eating pizza and by sharing this with your friends, family and social networks.

You can print out the flier here or come by the office and we'll print them for you.

Stop by any time on these dates and don't forget to bring the flier!

Weekly Update!

Happy Wednesday, all!

First of all, I’m really happy to share that we’re one step closer to getting our Foster and Volunteer Socials together! Volunteers and Fosters have both mentioned that they would like to have regular-ish get-togethers where they can hang out when they’re not “on the job.” To make sure these events are how you like them, please take a quick survey to help make them fun!

Next, Sam reports that about 20 kittens have gotten adopted from our Marin site, Woodlands Pets in Mill Valley, since they started adoptions in mid-June! Thank you, Stacy, for coordinating this! Doc, the puppy, was adopted after a brief run in with a fox tail. It’s foxtail season, guys, so watch out! (Pro tips on foxtails here: http://pets.webmd.com/dogs/foxtail-grass-and-your-dog)

Last, a couple quick opportunities: we’ve got mobile adoptions coming up Saturday, July 20th and Saturday July 27th. These both need drivers and handlers. Holler if you’d like to help get dogs adopted either of those days! We’ve got cat cuddling and animal care slots at the office pretty much daily.

And one more quick call out for dry cat food. Thank you all SO MUCH (especially Nina and co!) for keeping us in wet food. The kittens tell us that whichever we stock up on, they want the other! So if you’ve got a second to ask your local pet store or a spare couple dollars for a small bag, kittens say thank you!

Thank you all, and talk to you soon!

Cat Room Needs You!

What's behind door Number 1?
You may not be able to tell, but behind that yellow door is a new cat room- a space for long-term cats or cats on break from sites. The space has amazing light (beautifully represented in the panorama below) and will have room for Cat Cuddling!

It's almost ready for cats, but needs a little more work. Volunteers can:
  • Help move supplies
  • Help clean
  • Organize the place
  • Donate cat trees (we need a couple big ones) or help find gently used cat trees.
Contact Samantha (samantha@hopalong.org) or Lauren (lauren@hopalong.org) to schedule a time to come in!
