    New Office System!

    Hi Everyone!

I hope you're all having a great summer!

If you've been in the office lately, you might have noticed that I turned it into a total and complete mess. It's now back to a little bit less of a mess, but it's also rearranged (Thank you, William!). This is because we devised a new system to hopefully streamline volunteering and make it more fun for everyone! If you're scheduled for office-y stuff or inclined to start doing so (let me know!), check this out and next time you come in, try it out! (If you also do animal care, the procedure will be the same as it always was for animal care, but follow this for office work!)

My desk is now in the back room. Follow the paw prints to me on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Say hi! Even when I'm not here, say hi to everyone, and still follow the paw prints to my desk. A red binder now lives on my desk.

There are three tabs: To Do, Instructions and Supplies.
    1. To Do:
      1. There is an "anytime" page- these are things that basically always need done. Take a look around and if any of these need doing AND seem like something you like doing, go for it!
      2. The next page is a To Do for the current week. These are timely things that need doing. Take a look and if any aren't crossed out AND seem like something you like doing, go for it! Each of these tasks has a "who to ask" column- please feel free to ask anyone , but specific people are also listed. We don't bite!
    2. Instructions: Every task has a page with instructions. What to do, where to look and any detailed instructions you might need. I know there are a lot of weird things around here (including the staff!), and it's hard to remember it all. If you forget, check here!
    3. Supplies: Everything (almost) is now organized and labeled. But if you're looking for something and no one is around to ask, or you don't feel like asking or you like to admire my handiwork, check out this list!
I can't wait to see you all, and please feel free to tell me what is and isn't working about this system- it's very much a work in progress, and it's supposed to work for everyone. I love feedback- so feedback away!

Thanks for all of your help, guys!

    Lauren

    Upcoming Opportunities! (MANY!) (UPDATED)

Hi all, take a minute to scroll through these. They're in rough order of dates with ongoing events near the bottom. There is really something for many of you here, including people who can't come to the office and those of you who are only available on weekends. Many of these require more details, but don't worry, I've got you covered!
    • When: Saturday, Feburary 8th, 3:00-5:00
    • Where: Berkeley
    • What: At this cool social event for the entire Hopalong community there will be dogs for adoption! We need three handlers, 1 coordinator and one driver.
    • When: an evening TBD
    • Where: At the office
    • What: Thank-a-Thon: We will be calling all donors ($5-$50,000) starting in February on an evening TBD. If you're interested in doing this, please fill out this tiny poll to tell me what evening works for you so we can have a critical mass of a couple people.
    • When: Fridays and Sundays
    • Where: Petsmart Pinole
    • What: Cat Cuddling. If you like cats and don't live too far from Pinole, this is a pretty cool set up for cuddling. This is one of our mobile sites that has a kitty room to take the cats out for playing.
    • When: ASAP
    • Where: Anywhere
    • What: Decorate 2 sandwich boards for the new Berkeley Pet Food Express mobile. We have a brand new mobile event at the Pet Food Express in Berkeley. We need signage! We've got the boards, we need your skills!
    • When: ASAP
    • Where: Anywhere
    • What: Donor solicitation. We have an upcoming event that needs some goodies donated. Think quick phone calls to ask for yummies for people and pets. Can be done at the office or home or while a passenger in a car (no talking while driving!).
    • When: Anytime, M-F, 9-5, you pick!
    • Where: At the office
    • What: Testing the electronic devices. We have lots of possibly-working electronic devices around the office. Things like printers, computer towers, scanners- we're not even sure! If you've got any technical skills and can evaluate these things, we'd love to know what we've got and what we can get rid of!
    • When: Saturday, February 1st, 12-3
    • Where: Pet Food Express, Berkeley
    • What: Dog Mobile Adoption Event. 1 more handler needed.
    • When: Wednesday, January 28th, 7pm
    • Where: At the office
    • What: Dog screening training. If you'd like to learn how to screen adoption applications for dogs, please come to this training. It will last about an hour (maybe a little more) and will prepare you to do the initial phone call with potential dog adopters. These phone calls help us get information about people interested in adopting Hopalong dogs and can be made from home or the office for as much or as little time as you have to give each week. No commitment- just come and learn!
    • When: Saturday, Feburary 8th, 2:15-5:30
    • Where: Berkeley
    • What: We're having a cool social event for the entire Hopalong community. We need a couple of people to help us socialize, set up and breakdown. Prefer people who have worked events before. 1 more socializer needed.

Office Projects week of December 16th

    Howdy Partners,

We've got a couple office projects that we could really use some help on this week. These are all weekday, office projects.
    • Filing/moving project: our animal files overfloweth! We need to move them around in drawers and possibly to a different set of drawers. This needs some concentration but not a ton- it's not a super complicated job but needs to be done right this time. There *may be some lifting involved. 3-4 hours, can be done in a couple chunks.
    • Shelving supplies: We got tons and tons of supplies from Pet Food Express and they are sitting on the floor. Parts requires some physical strength. 3-4 hours, anything you can do helps!
    • Testing the electronics in the back: We've got lots of possibly-working electronic devices in the back room- printers, computer towers, scanners- I don't even know what! If you've got any tech skills and can evaluate these things, we'd love to know what we've got and what we can get rid of!
Thanks, guys- any time next week would be WONDERFUL- just let me know when you're coming in!

    Cat Room Needs You!

    What's behind door Number 1?
You may not be able to tell, but behind that yellow door is a new cat room- a space for long-term cats or cats on break from sites. The space has amazing light (beautifully represented in the panorama below) and will have room for Cat Cuddling!

It's almost ready for cats, but needs a little more work. Volunteers can:
    • Help move supplies
    • Help clean
    • Organize the place
    • Donate cat trees (we need a couple big ones) or help find gently used cat trees.
Contact Samantha (samantha@hopalong.org) or Lauren (lauren@hopalong.org) to schedule a time to come in!
